TikTok has opened up the ability for users in 20 more countries, in addition to the United States, to find and purchase tickets to their favorite artists’ events directly within the app.
Tik Tok and Ticketmaster are expanding their partnership to 20 more countries after initially launching in the United States in August 2022. The partnership allows users to purchase tickets to events directly from Tik Tok, without leaving the platform.
TikTok announced that the feature is now available in the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, Germany, France, Canada, Mexico, Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, Italy, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Switzerland, Spain, and Sweden.
This means that artists on TikTok in these countries can now use Ticketmaster’s ticketing feature to promote their live events and connect with new and existing fans on the platform, can add links to Ticketmaster events to their videos before they go live, and offer the option to purchase tickets directly within the app.
TikTok says that anyone who has been verified as a certified artist on the platform can use the feature, as long as they are located in one of the participating states.
It also says that early US tests have been quite successful “with both established and emerging artists.” Videos using the ticketing feature have attracted more than 2.5 billion views since the beta launched last August. It has not disclosed how many of those views have led to ticket sales.
“By allowing fans to purchase tickets directly through TikTok, we’re giving artists the opportunity to reach ticket buyers in a whole new way and change the game for live events around the world,” Michael Kümmerle, TikTok’s global music partnership development lead, said in a statement. “By bringing fans closer to the artists and events they love, we hope to provide additional value to all artists at all stages of their careers and provide more opportunities for a growing fan base.”
Other social platforms like Snapchat (which matches users with live events near them) and YouTube have launched similar partnerships with Ticketmaster in recent years. Ticketmaster also has a deal with Spotify that provides users with personalized event recommendations.
This offering isn’t exactly unique, but it does suggest that TikTok is determined to become a sizable presence in the music industry. The company recently launched “artist accounts,” which come with tools to help artists reach new fans and increase engagement with existing ones, provide artists with specialized promotional tools, and at the same time expanded the beta for its new audio streaming platform TikTok Music.
