Description

The EDD-24XT is a portable non-linear junction detector (NLJD), designed by TSCM – Technical Surveillance Counter Measures.

It is able to detect the presence of semiconductor circuits used in all modern electronic devices, such as cell phones, tracking devices, eavesdropping devices, hidden cameras, digital voice recorders, SIM cards, etc. The EDD-24XT detects such devices both when they are switched on and in use, when they are in standby mode, and when they are switched off.

The EDD-24XT comes with an adjustable telescopic aluminium pole that allows the length to be set between 30 and 140cm, allowing the operator to reach even the highest and most distant areas.

Features

Operating principle
Semiconductor electronics are used in all modern electronic devices and are made of silicon. When high-frequency radio signals are transmitted directly onto silicon, they produce a strong second harmonic of the radio signal frequency (double the frequency of the received signal). Other materials, such as some bimetals or oxidized metals, can respond with a third harmonic signal (triple the frequency of the received signal).

The EDD-24XT transmits a focused directional signal at 2.4 GHz (ISM band type B). It receives at 4.8 GHz (second harmonic) and 7.2 GHz (third harmonic).

The highly sensitive receiver responds to any second harmonic signal produced by even small silicon components, such as those used in SIM cards, cell phones, eavesdropping devices, voice recorders, hidden cameras, etc. These devices do not need to be in use, on standby, or even connected to power to be detected.

The third harmonic receiver serves as confirmation for signals that may be ambiguous or non-threatening, such as those generated by oxidized metals, bimetals, etc.

Probability indicator
To allow the operator to quickly evaluate a detected signal, the EDD-24XT uses an intelligent algorithm to analyze signals detected by both the second and third harmonic receiver and assess the likelihood that the detected material is actually “silicon” or “metal”.

Audio confirmation
The EDD-24XT can provide audio confirmation of detected signals in two ways: through the internal speaker or with the included headphones. Tone – This mode can be used to provide an audible tone for a detected signal on the second harmonic only. This allows the user to search without looking at the display. The tone changes based on the strength of the detected signal. Demodulation – This mode allows you to listen to an actual demodulated signal from the second harmonic receiver. When no signal is detected, you will hear a randomly audible “click.” In some cases, when silicon is detected, the click level will be reduced or completely eliminated.

Adjustable head
The EDD-24XT features an adjustable head that can be set to one of five positions along a 90-degree angle at the touch of a button. Two 200g counterweights[] are also supplied that can be screwed into the base of the extension pole handle, to balance the whole thing and ensure maximum comfort, especially when the pole is extended.
